Mel Gibson's First Chinese Film

The movie "What women want" starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt is reportedly will be remake in Chinese.

Chinese actor Andy Lau will work with Hollywood star Mel Gibson on the Chinese remake of "What Women Want". It will be the first time Gibson acts in a Chinese-language film, Sina.com.cn reports.

Polybona, a Beijing-based film distributor, bought the adaptation rights to "What Women Want", a 2000 romantic comedy led by Mel Gibson. Polybona has raised Andy Lau's remuneration from 1.55 million U.S. dollars to 2.32 million.

In the Chinese version, 90 percent of the story will stay the same as in the Hollywood version, where Mel Gibson plays a manager at an advertising company who accidentally becomes able to read women's minds. He uses this ability to get promoted and marry a beautiful woman. In the Chinese version, however, Andy Lau will play a divorced man with a son. After accidentally getting the ability to read women's minds, he makes a girl - played by Fan Bingbing - fall in love with him.

Director Chen Daming added a new character to the film and invited Gibson to play the role. Gibson, considering the Chinese film market very important, was also interested in the idea of acting in a Chinese version of his own film, the report says.

"What Women Want" will begin shooting next month. Chinese actress Gong Li's participation should be confirmed within two weeks, according to Chen.

The film is scheduled to hit Chinese cinemas next Valentine's Day.

Nicolas Tse has had a very good year. His wife is expecting their second child in a few weeks and a week ago Nicolas was awarded with the best supporting actor for his role in Bodyguards and Assassins at the 2010 Hong Kong Film Awards.

Andy Lau appointed as China Disabled Welfare Foundation vice chairman

Andy Lau has always been known to be a very benelovent person. He has participated in numerous charity events.

Yesterday Andy Lau was appointed as vice chairman for China Disabled Persons Welfare Foundation. Andy admits that the job carries a lot of responsibility, he said "I would like to work with each and every committee member and those who want to help people with disabilities." In 2010, the Foundation aims to raise 220 million RMB.

Andy Lau's Hollywood encounter

LONG before Jackie Chan and Jet Li ventured into Hollywood, Hong Kong star Andy Lau had had the chance, reported Sina.com.cn.

The Heavenly King revealed that he signed with a Hollywood agency in 1992.

"I was a Hollywood star earlier than Jackie Chan and Jet Li. For three years, I flew to America every three months to look at movie scripts."

Apparently, no script caught his fancy throughout the years.

"I was told very clearly that even in the next10 years, there would be no more than five scripts that are about Chinese. One of the better scripts I've seen is Year of the Dragon (1985), which starred John Lone.

"I've not signed with a Hollywood agency after that. What I'm looking for is something that I enjoy doing and hopefully, manage to impress others, instead of following the trend of going Hollywood. It's not really a big deal to go Hollywood," he concluded.

The 48-year-old, who got married to longtime girlfriend Carol Chu in 2008, revealed that his daily entertainment with wifey is watching TVB series.

"I enjoy watching Stephen Chow movies. They make me laugh," he said, adding that his favourite pastime includes going bowling with friends.

Taiwanese fans welcome Andy at the airport

Despite the recent bad press, Andy Lau is still loved by many

Since the marriage of heavenly king Andy Lau being exposed two months ago, he touched down in Taiwan for the first time with large group of media waiting and jam packed the airport yesterday.

Andy was surrounded by the media, when he was asked if he was going to announce any good news as in his wife is pregnant? He sighed and expressed: “This is my private matter, sorry, this is the matter between myself and the person I love,….therefore I won’t be discussing about this.” Yes, he is absolutely right about it! It is nobody's business. You know he should have been straight forward from the beginning, it would have saved him a lot of heart aches and stress!

He's still a very handsome man at 47 :-)

When Andy appeared, the awaiting fans screamed and went forward to give him presents and send him regards. In between someone shouted: “We’ll support you forever”, some fans held banners with writings “Andy, Taiwan fans support you all our life” which touched Andy.

According to udn news, close to 100 fans went to receive him at the airport, Andy whom dressed causally show off his friendliness by taking his own initiative to walk towards the fans after walking out of the gate, he collected flowers, presents and didn’t reject requests of shaking hands and autographs.

Despite just attending the start shooting ceremony of New Shaolin Temple, Andy looked fresh and was full of smile, reminding the media not to push and beware of their own safety.

Andy told fans during the 88 Typhoon fund raising event, asking them to save the air ticket and travel fees to donate to the charity and he is willing to jet over to Taiwan for a fan gathering, this is his fulfilling his promise to Andy World Club members. He teared about 1.5 hours meeting the fans and said: “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself.”

This gathering with his “family members” last for 3 hours, Andy sang and managed to take photographs with 800 fans, chatted with them, hugged them as he hope that the family members will be happy, healthy.

Professional photographers help Andy and his fans took photographs as he quipped that these photographs were too intimate and remind them not to upload the photograph to the Internet.

Throughout the gathering, Andy did not talked about his marriage and when he was asked if he would come to Taiwan for the Golden Horse Film Awards, he said: “I’m not sure, let’s see if I have the time.” Despite not taking about the sensitive topic about children, but Andy also show his fatherly side by carrying a little girl.

After the gathering, Andy immediately rushed to the airport to catch the 8pm flight thus he does not have the time to taste the good food in Taiwan, luckily the crew members prepared his favorite rice balls, soy bean drink and fruits for him. Before entering the custom gate, he reminded fans not to follow him and get into trouble with the media.

Andy stayed in Taiwan for a total of 9 hours and did not accept any interviews, 12 security guards were also hired to guard to entrance and exit of his fan gathering.

The low profile Andy left a message on his website on 19 October expressing the weather is comfortable and cool, however his skin is itchy and thus remind himself to take good care of his own skin when shooting of New Shaolin Temple starts at the end of the year. He also asked for skin care tips from fans. In another message, he talked about the couple whom in danger of losing their life because of pregnancy, Andy feel for them and show his support for them as he anticipating for a miracle.

There is a possibility that Andy would shave his head for the shooting of New Shaolin Temple, Andy’s manager revealed: “If it is requested, Andy will accommodate the request as he had previously shaved his head for Running On Karma and The Warlords, thus there is a possibility.”

Memorable birthday bash for Andy Lau

HONG Kong superstar Andy Lau cried at his birthday party celebrations last Tuesday and Wednesday night, reported Nanyang Siang Pau. His birthday was on Sunday.

Lau, whose marriage to Malaysian Carol Chu was exposed by the media recently, posted an article on his official website, thanking God for blessing him and expressing appreciation to his loyal fans.

Lau said his 48th birthday was full of grace and that he was touched by fans who had showered him with presents.

It has been a tumultuous couple of months for Lau.

First, Chu's father passed away, then the couple's marriage registration in Las Vegas was discovered.

He received flak for lying about his marriage. On Sunday afternoon, a van delivered a birthday cake to Lau's home in Hong Kong.

Two female fans also went there to take photos.

He had that Leon spent HK$2 million to sign up model Janice Man some 10 years ago, her earning in 1.5 month allowed the company to earn NT$780,000, with the assistant of wife Gaile Lai, Leon managed to earn back what he invested within 1.5 years.

Andy Lau kept girlfriend a secret due to mafia threats

HONG KONG: Heavenly King Andy Lau did not admit his relationship with long time girlfriend Carol Chu to protect her after being threatened by the infamous Hong Kong mafia, according to media reports Wednesday.

The pair had been romantically linked for 24 years and it was only recently that Lau admitted he had tied the knot with Chu in Nevada last year, after Hong Kong tabloids found evidence of the marriage in Clark County registries.

Hong Kong media said the reason behind all the secrecy came about after the mafia repeatedly threatened Lau's loved ones in retaliation to the star's refusal to act in movies financed by underworld figures. The reports said the 47-year-old superstar had initially refused to have anything to do with films funded by the mafia, standing his ground even with four guns aimed at his head. However, Lau caved in after incessant harassment and threats by triad members to harm his loved ones, most prominently Chu.

As one of the most popular stars in the Chinese music and movie industries, Lau was considered bankable by the mafia and any film he starred in had the potential to reap in box office profits of millions of Hong Kong dollars. During an interview in China a few years ago, Lau had let slip about the affair with the mafia, causing triad members to go his house to threaten Chu to ensure that his lips remained sealed. The incident was reportedly the reason why Lau had sent Chu back to Malaysia then.

It is about time he (Andy) comes clean about his marriage to Carol Chu.... there were so many rumours and they say, there's no smoke without fire! But after reading his explanation you have to forgive him for lying to you wouldn't you?

HONG KONG : Hong Kong star Andy Lau has admitted to marrying long-time girlfriend Carol Chu in Nevada last year. The 47-year-old made the admission on his Andy Lau Club site on Saturday after Hong Kong’s Apple Daily reported that the singer-actor and Chu, a former Malaysian beauty queen, had registered their marriage in Clark County, Nevada, on June 23.

Lau had repeatedly denied his relationship with Chu and even said that he would announce to the public when he decides to get married. The Heavenly King who has been romantically linked to Chu, 43, for 24 years, apologised to fans for not being truthful.

“I am ashamed that I have not been able to keep my promise and tell everyone about it [the relationship], I have caused my family, friends, and friends in the media much embarrassment, I am sorry... I will explain everything in due time,” he wrote.

That same day, Lau dropped another bombshell, revealing that he and Chu wed because they wanted to have a child. The doctor had advised the couple to opt for artifical insemination due to their age but in order to do so in Hong Kong, they needed to be married.

“After much thought, we decided to register our marriage in the United States in order to receive artificial insemination in Hong Kong. We kept this a secret because she [Chu] did not want to be pursued by the press. I thought I’d let everyone know when it was successful and the foetus was stable but I only complicated things,” he wrote.

Lau revealed through his assistant that Chu is not pregnant and that they do not have any kids. The couple were rumoured to have an 11-year-old daughter after a girl was spotted travelling with them to Malaysia for Chu’s late father’s funeral.

Andy Lau too arrogant to commit to marriage!?

Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau is upset at rumour that he's going to wed long term girlfriend Carol Chu at the end of this month. He told reporters on Monday "No such thing. There is still not enough love for me to get married."

Lau has been linked with Carol Chu for a long period of time. Rumour has it that the couple have a kid together and that Carol and Andy's kid are currently residing in Malaysia.

Hong Kong medias speculate that the wedding will take place within this month. I however think that they are already married probably many years ago.

I think Andy is a fame hungry person. He's 48 years old this year he still thinks he can get young girls to fall in love with him so he denies that he's married.

Mate, unless to come out gay otherwise you're a married man.
