Choi Ji-woo to hold autograph session in Seoul this week

Korean actress Choi Ji-woo will be holding an autograph session in Seoul on Friday, according to cosmetics brand Shiseido on Tuesday.

The actress will be meeting fans and signing autographs at a fan event, to be held at Seoul's Lotte Department Store on March 26.

The event, sponsored by Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido which Choi endorses, will celebrate the launch of "Jiwoo Serum", a new product named after the actress.

"I am excited to meet fans for the first time in a long time", the actress was quoted as saying. "I hope this will be an opportunity to express my gratitude to them before I get to meet them through good work this year".

Choi, 34, first garnered attention when she appeared in popular television series "First Love - 1996" (KBS, 1996) alongside top Korean actor Bae Yong-joon. She re-united with Bae six years later in the smash hit drama "Winter Sonata" (KBS, 2002), which turned the two actors into household names throughout Asia.

She has starred in numerous dramas and films to date including "Stairway to Heaven" (SBS, 2003) with kwon Sang-woo and Kim Tae-hee and reality-based film "Actresses", in which she and five other Korean actresses appeared as themselves last year.

Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo Reunite for Winter Sonata after 7 years

Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo, who played Joon-sang and Yu-jin in the 2002 KBS drama Winter Sonata, will reunite to play the same roles after a break of seven years.

The two stars have provided voice-overs as Joon-sang and Yu-jin for the Japanese animation Winter Sonata, which aired for 15 episodes on SKY PerfecTV. They will make actual appearances in the final scene of the final episode.

The animation is a joint Korea-Japan production of the KBS drama Winter Sonata, which has played a major part in spreading Hallyu, or the Korean wave, in Asia and other parts of the world. The “Animation Winter Sonata, Another Story” event held at Tokyo Dome attracted some 50,000 fans in last September to celebrate its airing.

A member of the production crew said, “An increasing number of Japanese viewers are interested in the animation Winter Sonata with each episode. The producers and actors decided to shoot a live action ending scene to show our gratitude for the viewers’ support.”

Meanwhile, the final episode of the animation Winter Sonata is scheduled to air on April 24.

Actress Choi Ji-woo to receive President's honour

Korean Wave star Choi Ji-woo will receive the presidential commendation for promoting Korea's tourism, according to her agency on Thursday.

The actress will be awarded for her contribution in tourism at the 36th Tourism Day Celebration Ceremony on September 29, C, JW Company announced in a press release.

Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the host for the event, selected Choi as the winner due to her contribution through KBS TV drama "Winter Sonata". The drama, a massive hit in Korea and also throughout Asia, has been bringing fans of the show into the country since its airing in 2002.

"Hallyu dramas are more than just cultural content - they bring about positive economic effects by bringing in money from overseas and increasing tourism," the Hallyu star was quoted as saying. "I hope many good dramas will continue to be produced."

Earlier this month, Choi was admitted into the Star Hall of Fame at the Seoul Drama Awards 2009. The 34-year-old actress is scheduled to leave for Tokyo on Sunday to attend the premiere party for the animation version of "Winter Sontata". The event, to be held at the Tokyo Dome, will also be attended by her co-star Bae Yong-joon who provided voice-overs for the animation alongside Choi.

Choi Ji-woo Donates W100 Million for Poor Children

Actress Choi Ji-woo (Stairway to Heaven) will donate a W100 (A$105,000) million worth of scholarships for poor students in Busan, her hometown.

The Busan Office of Education on Wednesday (24/6) said the actress will hand out the scholarships when she attends a campaign aimed at improving the educational environment and nurturing human resources on July 1.

Since 2000, the actress has also donated W300 million (A$314,000) to her high school in Busan to provide scholarships for needy students.

That is a considerable amount of money that she is giving away for a good course. Her generosity will make a world of difference to those students.
