Lee Jun-ki quits filming to fulfill his army duty

Military service has been looming for a while for Lee Jun-ki, but in a surprising turn, he has announced that he will enlist next week, on May 3. As a 1982-er, Lee would have to enlist by the end of this year, but he received his papers shortly after beginning his new film project.

This forces him not only to drop his upcoming drama Faith, which would have paired him with Kim Hee-sun and Philip Lee, but also his film Grand Prix, which has already begun shooting. Grand Prix is the horse-racing movie that co-stars Kim Tae-hee, and because of Lee’s last-minute dropout, the producers are currently filming all the parts that exclude his character while hurriedly casting Lee’s replacement.

Lee had attempted to postpone enlistment, as he had filled his work schedule through the end of the year, but was unable to do so.

Lee Jun-ki to enter military after shooting movie and drama

As mentioned in the previous post, actor Lee Jun-ki is busy filming his latest project Grand Prix at Jeju Island. News has come out that Lee will have to serve his madatory military obligations when filming wraps up.

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will be pushing back his military entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments, according to his agency JG Company on Monday.

According to an official at JG, Lee had received a notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration to enter the army within the year to fulfill his mandatory two-year service.

"But he asked to defer the entrance date because he is currently working on a movie and television series," the official was quoted as saying. "Entering the military is something that should be and will be done without question, but I think he needs to finish what he has been working on before going [to the military]."

He added that final details regarding the issue will be sorted out sometime early next week.

Lee, 27, became a household name after appearing as a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently portrayed a passionate magazine reporter in MBC TV series "Hero".

The Hallyu star started shooting the film "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee earlier this month and is scheduled to appear in SBS TV's 24-episode series "Faith" later in the year.

Kim who haven't appear in many movies nor dramas has recently return to acting through a lead role in popular kdrama IRIS is now busy filming a movie where she plays Joohee, a lovely character who loves horseriding.

The upcoming movie Grand Prix has released its first still cut from the film. The movie stars big name actors Lee Junki and Kim Tae Hee. Even before seeing the picture, we knew these two were playing each other’s love interests but the photos definitely shows that it’s a sad movie.

After losing her horse through an accident, Kim Tae Hee’s character Joohee leaves for Jeju Island. That’s the scene those still cuts are from. Kim Tae Hee said, “A horseback riding movie is new for me. I’m looking forward to it.”

She talked about practicing horseback riding, “I’m still not very good but I’m trying to be in the best condition when I go into filming. Horseback riding is a sport that will make you feel energetic.” It has been three years since she was seen on the big screen so I’m sure the fans are looking forward to seeing her than the horses.

Lee Junki suffers from the same pain as Joohee in the movie and roots for her very discreetly. He used to be a famous horseback rider but after an accident, he loses a friend. He wanted to give up everything but then he meets Joohee.

Lee Junki said, “The movie’s story was what drew me into it. But Joohee’s character was so lovable and beautiful to me. And my character Wooseok has a charming image as well.” The movie will be released at the end of the year.

Lee Jun-ki pays for his own concert in Taiwan

Hallyu star, Lee Junki held his 2009 J Style Taiwan Concert Tour at the Taipei International Convention Center on 26th September. But after it was discovered before the concert that the local Taiwanese organizer had ran off with the money for the concert, as Junki and his management had to fork out money from their own pockets to make sure that the concert went ahead, without disappointing the fans.During the concert, Lee Junki did everything by himself and his dedicated performance had his fans clapping his every more. One of the unique performance saw him doing a mask dance, pushing the concert to a climax.

This Taiwan concert was supposed to be the last stop for Lee Junki's Asia concert tour. Lee Junki arrived on 22nd September to a great reception from his legion of fans, and he also greeted them in Mandarin. But things started falling apart, when it was discovered that their Taiwanese counterparts had ran away with the money, that was for the concert. The venue was not even booked! Junki was supposed to have a concert in Taiwan last September, but it was later cancelled due to a typhoon. But Junki promised fans that he will return and he specially made Taiwan the last stop for his concert tour this year, to fulfil his promise. Despite this unfortunate setback, Junki and his management agency did not falter in adversity, managing to rent the venue, stage equipment, etc at the very last minute to make sure that the concert went on as scheduled.

Lee Jun-ki beat Rain and Song Hye-kyo as most popular Hallyu star in China

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki has been voted the top Hallyu star in China, according to his agency on Friday.

The actor came in first, beating Rain and actress Song Hye-kyo, in the "2009 Most Popular Korean Star" survey held by CRI Online, a major portal in China, Mentor Entertainment said in a press release.

Lee is also receiving attention in Taiwan with more than 80 media companies on Wednesday attending Lee's press conference for a fan concert set for tomorrow. His Taiwan concert was delayed indefinitely last year due to a typhoon.

"The foundation of Lee's popularity in the Chinese market is more solid than any other Hallyu star syndrome," an official working at a Taiwanese broadcaster was quoted as saying. "I don't think his popularity will decline anytime soon."

The 27-year-old actor rose to stardom playing a woman-like male clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown".

He is set to appear in the MBC drama, tentatively titled "Hero", which will air in Korea in November.
